While discussions over IIT and IISc is going on let me chime in with a question. (I am new to the forum so this is my first hi)
I have recently started preparing for GATE and my sole motivation is to get into IISc (specifically the MS(Engg.) program offered by SERC and want to take the Computer Systems lab). First and foremost I want to work in computer architecture and I found this to be the best place to work. (Would like some feedback on the profs there). I know this is something too specific to set my sights on but there are several advantages to this which I can see from where I stand. Correct me if I am wrong
1. IISc and the MS program both are heavily research oriented. I don't really want huge package placement, a assistant professor's salary in IISc, IITs or NITs is more than enough, provided I have good research opportunities. And there is always this possibility that I get into a commercial research lab.
2. IISc is highly reputed and the opportunities are endless there, but so is with any IIT.
3. Cut off is significantly lower. The MS program has a cut off of approx 95-97 percentile for the last 3 years. Makes my life easier.
4. They do cutting edge research in comp arch (or so I know, citation and explanations needed)
If there is any other course matching this criteria (heavy research and comp arch being the most essential) would be glad to know.
BTW, I am in 3rd year B.Tech in a second tier college. Do you think if I am eligible as per marks (GATE and Degree aggregate) I would get a call. They don't have a bias towards NITs or BITS or such institutes right?
