hi frnz...can any one give me the exact explanation for the ckt as...A 10sin314t supply is connected in series to a capa(100microf) with an ideal
diode n M.I meter is connected across the diode,what value M.I meter reads?
ans: the given ans is 12.25, can any one explain? r the formula used ?..........for ur reference it is in P.S.bhimbhra text book objective questions(diode rectifer topic.Q-15) given at last.....

The circuit is kind of a clamp .That is the voltage is clamped downward by 10 volts because the capacitor is charged to 10 volts

During the positive half cycle of the source voltage , the voltage across the diode starts from -10 and goes upto 0 volts at 90 degrees and then comes down to -10 volts at 180 degrees .

Thereafter it becomes more negative and hits the rock bottom at -20 volts and then up ward to -10 volts at 360 degrees . The cycle repeats

So the voltage equation across the diode is v(t) = -10 +10 Sin 314t .

MI meters read only RMS value

SO the RMS value of the voltage is SQRT ((-10)^2 +(10/sqrt(2))^2) = 12.25 Volts
